Volunteers needed from all walks of life

At Voyager, community involvement in the school experience is encouraged and welcome. There will be many opportunities for accomplished individuals who wish to share their expertise to do so within our classroom walls.

Voyager’s diverse program offers many opportunities for volunteer teachers, including but not limited to tutoring, before and after school enrichment programs, guest speaker program, teaching a language, teaching an art unit, teaching keyboard or ukulele, serving as a resource for Hawaiian studies, and many more.

Some examples of the types of professional expertise we hope to attract from those of you who give back to the community are as follows:

  • Librarians

  • Artists to conduct special sessions

  • Seniors to read to students

  • Dancers to provide occasional instruction

  • Linguists to broaden the understanding of the link between langauages

  • Scientists and engineers to bring their latest project into the school to enhance student application of scientific principles

  • Information technologists

  • Physicians to help teach about the human body

Obviously, our classroom teachers will have the primary responsibility to teach students at Voyager. Equally important, however, is for Voyager students to learn from the experts in their community. A few hours a month could make a huge difference in the learning capacity and in the lives of these students.
